Esta serie de fotografías, a las que ha tenido acceso AjedrezND, se ve a Azmaiparashvilli de pie forcejeando con los agentes que intentan convencerle para que se siente. La mujer de atrás es su esposa.
En la segunda instantánea ya se había producida la agresión y los agentes intentaban reducirlo. El agente que recibió el presunto cabezazo es el de la derecha que aparece con la boca contraída. Instantes después rodarían todos por el suelo hasta debajo de las sillas de la segunda fila. La mujer de Aizmaparashvilli esta grabando la escena, las imágenes de esta grabación no se han publicado. La pregunta de Ricardo Montecatine preguntándose quien tendría la sangre fría de grabar durante un incidente así con su pareja, continúa en el aire. Momentos después en la sala de prensa la mujer de Azmaiparashvilli dijo que tenia un video. ¿ donde esta el video?.
Después de dura resistencia en el suelo, unos 30 segundos, y de que acudiese aparte de los de los agentes de la foto superior, otro agente de la guardia urbana de Calvià a ayudarlos porque estos no podían con el, según pudimos ver desde el piso de arriba, los agentes pueden esposar por fin a Azmaparashvilli y sacarlo de la sala.
Open Letter to FIDE and Georgian Chess Federation

During last two weeks a significant number of world intellectuals were paying close attention to the World Chess Olympiad, 2004, which took place in Spain. It was a great festivity for both chess players and chess friends, but it was partly ruined by the terrible incident that happened during the closing ceremony involving Mr Zurab Azmaiparashvili. I am not going to judge who was right and who was wrong; this is a privilege of Spanish Law Enforcement Agencies. I just want to say that if FIDE and Georgian Chess Federation had listened to and implemented the message of my open letter, which I wrote in June, 2004 with WGM Lela Javakhishvili and addressed it to FIDE and World Chess Society – “FIDE without Azmaiparashvili”, this disgusting fact would not have occurred. If FIDE had published our letter on its web-site, if Mr.Georgios Makropoulos and other FIDE executives had taken the opportunity to express their opinion on Mr. Azmaiparashvili’s actions and if FIDE had not limit itself only with an irrelevant response by Stefanova and Kovalevskaya, which provoked only wry smiles all around the world, I believe, that we would not have witnessed the spectacle, involving Mr. Azmaiparashvili, which ruined this beautiful day for all chess players.
I was completely shocked by the speeches of some representatives of the Georgian Chess Federation made during the press-conference, organized by the Georgian Chess Federation, on the 1st of November. We all understand that it is not an honorable action to hit a person, who is already on his/her knees, but how could we interpret words of some GrandMasters saying: “It’s true, that Azmaiparashvili often provokes conflicts, but he is a real man and he protested against disrespect towards Georgia”. How was disrespect shown towards Georgia and why has this issue become a political one? It’s a nonsense. Why do they invoke the name of Nona Gaprindashvili to justify this incident? Some speakers at the press-conference did not even attend the closing ceremony and have no idea, how the incident happened. Maybe it would be better if these people, first of all, respected their country and Mrs. Nona Gaprindashvili and attended the ceremony of awarding a cup named after her? Or maybe, it would be better if Mr. Azmaiparashvili protested against the statement of the Israeli Men’s Chess team, which accused the Georgian Team of intentionally and deliberately giving up their scores in the last round? This is where reputation of Georgia was indeed shaken.
Nobody would accuse Spanish Law Enforcement Agencies for their actions as far as they were following their duty and were protecting chess society both in their country and in the world.
The time has come that everybody, FIDE, the Georgian Chess Federation, and Mr. Azmaiparashvili himself, start evaluating events and incidents that he is involved in and, finally, come to a relevant conclusion. Never having once been penalized before for his actions has led Mr Azmaiparashvili to believe that, for him, everything is permitted and this swaggering bravado threatens Azmaiparashvili’s reputation, career and possibly even his life…
Concluding, I address FIDE and Georgian Chess Federation again to take into consideration all we have said above, to respect the opinions of all chess players, and to bridle the actions of ambitious and aggressive people.

Carta abierta a la FIDE y a la Federación Georgiana de Ajedrez

Durante las últimas semanas, muchos intelectuales tenían sus ojos sobre la Olimpiada Mundial de Ajedrez 2004 que se celebró en España. Fue una gran festividad para los jugadores y los amigos del ajedrez, pero fue parcialmente arruinado por el terrible incidente que sucedió en la ceremonia de clausura. No voy a juzgar quién tiene la razón y quién no; eso es un privilegio de los jueces españoles. Solo quiero decir que si la FIDE y la Federación Georgiana de Ajedrez hubieran oído e implementado el slogan de mi carta abierta escrita en junio de 2004 junto con la WGM Lela Javakhishvili y que dirijimos a FIDE y a la opinión pública ajedrecística - "FIDE sin Azmaiparashvili", este desagradable incidente no hubiera ocurrido. Si la FIDE hubiera publicado la carta en su web, si el Sr. Georgios Makropulos y otros ejecutivos de FIDE hubieran tenido la oportunidad de expresar su opinión sobre las acciones del Sr. Azmaiparashvili y si la FIDE no se hubiera limitado a dar una respuesta en boca de Stefanova y Kovalevskaya, que solo provocaron risa en el mundo, creo que no hubieramos sido testigos de este show protagonizado por el Sr. Azmaiparashvili, que arruinó ese estupendo día a todos los ajedrecistas.
Estoy completamente sorprendida por las palabras que algunos representantes de la Federación Georgiana de Ajedrez dijeron en la rueda de prensa organizada por dicha Federación el día 1 de noviembre. Todos entendemos que no es un hecho honorable pegar a una persona que ya está de rodillas, pero cómo podemos interpretar las palabras de algunos GMs diciendo: "Es verdad que a veces el Sr. Azmaiparashvili provoca conflictos pero es un verdadero hombre que protestó en contra de dejar en mala posición a Georgia". ¿Cómo fue dejada en mal lugar Georgia y por qué este echo se convierte en un problema político? No tiene sentido. ¿Por qué utilizan el nombre de Nona Gaprindashvili para justificar este incidente? Algunos de los que hablaron en la rueda de prensa ni siquiera estuvieron presentes en la ceremonia de clausura y no tienen ni idea de cómo ocurrió el incidente. Quizá no sería mejor que esas personas, primero respetaran su país y a la Sra. Nona Gaprindashvili y hubieran estado en la ceremonia en la que se entregaba un trofeo con su nombre?
¿O quizá no hubiera sido mejor que el Sr. Azmaiparashvili hubiera protestado contra el escrito del equipo masculino israelí que les acusó de perder deliberadamente sus partidas en la última ronda? Es por esto por lo que se tambaleó la reputación de Georgia.
Nadie acusará a las Fuerzas de Seguridad españolas por sus acciones porque estuvieran cumpliendo su deber y estuvieran protegiendo a la sociedad del ajedrez en su país y en el resto del mundo.
El tiempo ha llegado para todos, FIDE, la Federación Georgiana de Ajedrez y el propio Sr. Azmaiparashvili, comiencen a evaluar los eventos e incidentes en los que están involucrados y después saquen las conclusiones pertinentes. Nunca ha sido penalizado antes por sus acciones y eso ha creado una atmósfera en la que parece que todo se permite para él y eso amenaza la reputación del Sr. Azmaiparashvili, su carrera e incluso su vida.
Concluyendo, pido a la FIDE y a la Federación Georgiana de Ajedrez una y otra vez, que tengan en cuenta todo lo que hemos dicho arriba, que respeten las opiniones de cualquier ajedrecista y que limiten las ambiciones de la gente agresiva.
